Objective

The UPU’s International Letter-Writing Competition aims to foster literacy through the art of letter writing. This annual competition encourages children and young people to express their creativity and refine their language skills.

Contributing Stakeholders

As the national postal operator, TTPost is organizing the national competition for primary and secondary school students across Trinidad and Tobago. We are also working in partnership with the Ministry of Education to promote the competition through their network. The judging process is overseen by a distinguished panel of academics from the College of Science, Technology, and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT).

Competition Details

Eligibility

  • Open to students aged 9-15 years old from primary and secondary schools.
  • Participants must be from Trinidad and Tobago.

Theme for 2025

“Imagine you are an ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you.”

Guidelines

  • Your letter must be written in English.
  • The letter should be recent and unpublished.
  • Include a date, salutation, and signature.
  • Attach a cover page with the student’s name, address, contact number, and the school’s name, address, and contact number.
  • The letter must adhere strictly to the theme and not exceed 800 words.

  1. Write your letter according to the guidelines.
  2. Submit your entry/entries to:

Submission Deadline

  • Friday, 28th March 2025.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged based on the following:

  • Structure as a letter
  • Adherence to the theme
  • Creativity
  • Use of language

The top three entries will be awarded first, second, and third places. Additionally, special mentions may be awarded to other noteworthy entries. The results will be submitted to the UPU International Bureau, who will notify the member countries promptly.

Prizes

  • National Winner: Prizes may include laptops, notebooks, tablets, etc.
  • International Winner: The gold, silver, and bronze medalists may receive a trip to the UPU headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, or an alternative prize determined by the UPU. Those receiving a special mention will be awarded a certificate and other prizes, as decided by the UPU.
